Single Shift Activities

• Kit Maker: Volunteers who sign up for kit making will come and prepare small science activity kits that will either be donated to local non-profit organizations, used in our outreach programs, or utilized here at SEE on our busiest days by other volunteers. Volunteers will be cutting, glueing, counting and packing small consumables into bags. SEE provides over 4,000 STEM kits to kids in our community each year. Kit Maker shifts are 2 hours in length.
• Kit Facilitator: This is a great activity for teens and adults alike to interact with kids on the museum floor putting together science kit activities. All kits come in individualized bags and volunteers will get all of the materials they need to complete the activity with visitors and talk about the science behind the activity. Kit facilitator shifts are two hours in length. Kit Facilitator shifts are 2 hours in length.
• Near Peer Facilitator – Events: During special event nights at the Science Center, we often seek teenage volunteers (near peers) to help facilitate science activities with kids. We offer these opportunities at different events throughout the year including during black history month, our Kickoff to Summer celebration, Latino Heritage month and our Sensory Friendly events. We encourage bilingual volunteers, volunteers with disabilities and those with lived experiences to participate as role models during these events sharing their experiences and love of science with kids from their community. Length of volunteer shift is dependent on the event.
• Event Volunteers: Throughout the year SEE hosts several fundraising events to help support the mission of the Center. For these events we are looking for volunteers to help with everything from parking cars, to bid spotting. In order to be an event volunteer, you must have previously participated an extended volunteering opportunity at the Science Center.
• STEM Role Model: For Hispanic Heritage month and Black history month the Science Center works to highlight the contributions of Black and Latino STEM professionals at all career levels.  You can choose to share your story for a role model feature or come to a community after hour event to talk to kids and families about what you do.  Sharing your story can make a huge impact in helping kids envision themselves in these roles.

Group Activities

• Group Kit Making: At group kit making events volunteers create anywhere from 1-5 different science kits assembly line style. At the end of group kit making activities SEE staff will provide a tour of our facility including our Guiness World Record Holding LEGO Millyard Model.
• Neighborhood Clean-ups: SEE strives to make our community a safe space for our kids and families to walk and play. To this end we host community clean-up events to remove unsafe materials from our surrounding neighborhood. During two events throughout the year we host community-wide clean-ups through multiple city wards.
  Park2Park – hosted each year the Monday before Earth Day
  Trick-or-Trash – hosted two Monday’s before Halloween

Extended Volunteering:

• Office Support: We are always looking for regular volunteers to help with mailings, supply prep and general office work. If you want to spend some time helping out our great team behind-the-scenes, we would love to have you.
• Dusting:If you don’t mind a little elbow grease, we encourage you to sign up as a dusting volunteer to help keep our exhibits clean and bright every day for our many visitors.
• Exhibit Helper: All of our hands-on exhibits have a lot of parts, help us keep the exhibits in good working order by helping us stock parts and test that everything is working as it should.
• Program Prep: SEE delivers field trip and outreach programs to over 9,000 kids each year. Program Prep volunteers help our education team prepare the many supplies that keep our programs going day after day.
• Data Entry/Collection Volunteer – SEE consistently works to improve services for our visitors through evaluation.  Volunteers in this position may support the science center behind-the-scenes inputting data so that we can crunch the numbers and improve our services or conducting evaluations with visitors.  If you prefer only working behind-the-scenes, or only working on floor – let us know.  We can adjust the role to match our volunteers comfort levels.  This position requires a background check.  Visitors conducting evaluation with the public will receive evaluation training.
• Exhibit Maintenance Volunteer – SEE’s exhibits get a lot of love from our visitors.  Help us keep everything in top shape by supporting small repairs, painting and doing preventative maintenance on our exhibits.
• Pollinator Garden Volunteer – This is a focused effort in collaboration with NH Audubon to revive urban green spaces and improve wildlife habitat. The program addresses the urgent need to combat declining native pollinator populations, limited access to green areas, and the obstacles between urban dwellers and nature. NH Audubon has established native “Pocket Pollinator Gardens” in five locations in Manchester, with a sixth planned for installation in 2026. One of these locations happens to be the Mill Garden here at SEE!  We are looking for Volunteer support on the following Saturdays:
