The New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority (CDFA) announced June 21, 2023 that it has awarded $4.5 million in tax credits to projects throughout New Hampshire. The funds will have a significant impact on initiatives that advance local community economic development goals and build capacity within New Hampshire’s nonprofit sector.  Local businesses can now purchase tax credits to support area non-profits.

“Organizations awarded Tax Credit resources have demonstrated a strong commitment to their communities,” commented Katy Easterly Martey, Executive Director, CDFA. “These community builders are driving positive, long-lasting change in New Hampshire.”

Grants made to organizations are in the form of tax equity. New Hampshire businesses support the selected projects by purchasing the tax credits, resulting in the nonprofit receiving a donation and the company receiving a 75 percent New Hampshire state tax credit against that contribution. The credit can be applied against the Business Profits Tax, Business Enterprise Tax, or Insurance Premium. Five grants were made to the local Manchester area non-profits including the $150,000 to the SEE Science Center.  The SEE Science Center received funding to create a dynamic new exhibit area that will be integrated with SEE’s iconic LEGO® Millyard.  Completed in 2006, the LEGO® Millyard is the largest permanent LEGO® installation at minifigure scale in the world, as recognized by Guinness World Records®.  This stunning display is viewed by visitors from all 50 states annually and is a source of local pride. However, it lacks the multi-sensory engagement for which SEE is known and loved.  The new exhibit area will be called the Millyard Design Zone and was designed through a process which incorporated community stakeholders and extensive evaluation with the public.  It will be a holistic exhibit experience that challenges visitors to explore science stories in the City of Manchester, past, present and future.  The exhibit topics will focus on: City Planning, Energy & Conservation, and Manufacturing.  The CDFA award will provide the initial funds to start this large-scale exhibit project that will not only add new hands-on components but will also include multiple upgrades to the main model including improved viewing, video displays an interactive train component and new water features.  To support this project visit the CDFA project Millyard Design Zone project portal.
