An Evening of Discovery and Giving at Westwind

On Thursday October 28, 2021 Dean Kamen opened his home to the region’s leaders of high-tech companies, businesses and special invited guests for the 11th annual Evening of Discovery & Giving to benefit the SEE Science Center -Manchester, New Hampshire’s science discovery center.

The event was held in-person, with guests donning masks and flashing their vax cards to enter the home of Dean Kamen; a buzz of excitement filled the home. RBC Wealth Management lead many generous sponsors, supporting SEE’s mission to engage the community in the joyful, active exploration of science and innovation.

The bright, brisk day and a welcome window between rainstorms, allowed guests to explore the outdoor patios and cupola and take in the view of autumn hills and colors. Inside, SEE staff demonstrated the van de graff generator as guests watched their hair stand on end and held hands creating a human circuit for the electricity. VIP guests enjoyed demonstrations presented by DEKA engineers of special exhibits that they and their colleagues have created for Dean through the years.

Theme of the event was Amplifying Impact Through Partnerships. SEE’s Executive Director, Shana Hawrylchak highlighted the work SEE has done with community partners like the YMCA, Girls at Work, the Manchester Community Action Coalition, Southern NH University and the Advanced Regenerative Manufacturing Institute in her remarks. “Together, we can do more than any one of us can do alone”, Hawrylchak told the audience.

Guests enjoyed a and a casual Q & A presentation between SEE Board members and Dean Kamen in the helicopter hanger. The event culminated in generous rounds of giving from guests and sponsors unlocking more than $20,000 in matching funds in support of SEE. Through event sponsorships, silent auction bids, and individual giving, the Evening of Discovery and Giving raised more than $180,000 to support the mission of the SEE Science Center.
