A new public mural installation is scheduled for May 16, 2026, at the embankment along Canal and Pleasant Streets in Manchester. The project is a collaboration between SEE Science Center, Manchester Connects, The City of Manchester and artist Big Sam’s Paints, and is designed to highlight Manchester’s industrial history and natural landscape.

The mural will span about 130 feet long by 8 feet high and run along both sides of the stairway, tapering at each end to follow the shape of the embankment. Installation will take place throughout the day.

On August 21, 2025 a community concept discussion of the mural design was held at SEE.

“We are excited to work with our partners to bring this mural to fruition and are grateful for the funding from the Hunt Foundation that made this project possible,” said SEE Executive Director, Shana Hawrylchak.  “This project will have a huge impact on the neighborhood, improving the walking experience between the Millyard and Downtown and helping to reconnect neighborhoods which have been historically separated.  It is also a great way to recognize the City’s history of innovation as we get ready to celebrate Manchester’s 180^th birthday.”
