About Science on Tap
For the past 8 years SEE Science Center located in Manchester, NH has hosted its popular Science on Tap program the first Tuesday of every month (October through June). Directed towards an adult audience, these programs allow attendees to sample their favorite brew while discussing a STEM topic. Through this program members of the community have the chance to engage with scientists, engineers, and inventors. Attendees ask panelists questions in an informal setting to gain a better understanding of how new and emerging technologies impact the world we live in. Science on Tap is part of the worldwide science café movement where experts and scientists are brought together with the public for informal discussions. We typically have two to four panelists at each event and we average 55 attendees (based on past in person events).
Our events are very informal. We allot 5 to 10 minutes for the panelists to introduce themselves and their experience with the topic, then we open up for Q & A with the audience. If you are new to the Science café concept, here is a great resource that describes what to expect: http://sciencecafes.org/speaker-resources/presentertips/ This linked resource does say not to use powerpoint, but a few graphic or photo slides to illustrate points are fine with us. If you do choose to show media to show, just let us know ahead so we can plan accordingly. Little preparation is required to be a panelist at this type of casual discussion event. You just need to share your passion and expertise.
